Financial Literacy Events in 2024/2025

Dates coming soon!

Dollars and Sense is our new speaker series coming soon!

With the ever-evolving way we manage our day-to-day tasks and schedule, it's no wonder that we are seeking more help and advice than ever before. At Student Central, we are here to help. The friendly team at student central offers in-person, phone support or inquiry forms for things such as application and registration assistance, academic advising, OSAP and undergraduate scholarships, awards, and bursaries. Speaking of, did you know that Lakehead University is in the top two for universities in Ontario when it comes to scholarships, awards and bursaries? Lakehead offers up to $11 million each year to assist students.

But you have to ask yourself, how far will a dollar really get you? A follow up question you may want to ask yourself is, do you take care of your financial health? People see a doctor or dentist for preventative health care, so why are we not seeking out support for financial health too? Financial wellbeing and your general wellness go hand-in-hand. We have a team here at Lakehead to support you in all aspects of your wellness, including your financial wellbeing.

While we adapt to new changes in technology, changes in the way we interact with each other and changes in the way we receive information, Student Awards and Financial Aid in partnership with RBC will be piloting a new speaker series, entitled “Dollars and Sense”. This speaker series will expand your financial knowledge. Beginning this fall, the series will have both webinar and in-person sessions with industry leading professionals on topics such as financial planning, small business, and fraud prevention and awareness. They will be informal and on campus. The dates/times will be listed on Lakehead’s financial literacy page Here.  When you attend a speakers series you will be entered in a draw for a prize bundle and are one step closer to completing the Financial Literacy Advocate program.

An exciting initiative we will be revamping is the financial literacy advocate program. Financial literacy is a part of day-to-day life. If you have a passion for helping others, are interested in money management and enjoy engaging with people, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you. If you are interested or would like to learn more, please feel free to email financial.engagement@lakeheadu.ca.
