A Team Approach

Lakehead University Security Service provides a professional, uniformed, security service that is licensed under the Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005. (SO 2005, c 34).  Each member of our team is a licensed security guard in the Province of Ontario and is identified by a regimental number worn on the outside of their uniform.

Members of our courteous and professional team are on duty 24-hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. Our primary duty is keeping the entire campus safe for students, faculty, staff and visitors that they may study, work, live and recreate. We monitor and patrol the campus, including the residences, respond to security and emergency calls, maintain order in the parking lots as City of Thunder Bay By-Law enforcement officers, and when necessary, enforce the laws found in the Criminal Code of Canada and the Ontario Trespass to Property Act. In addition to these services, we maintain a fully staffed communications office that monitors a modern network of recorded cameras, personal alarms, fire alarm panels and emergency phones and "blue" emergency posts. We provide fire prevention and suppression equipment inspection service and a full time parking enforcement service. Our team employs a number of licensed part time staff to assist in making the workload manageable. 

The authority to perform our duties at Lakehead University is granted to us by the governance model of Lakehead University.  We are agents of the occupier as legislated under the Ontario Trespass to Property Act. RSO 1990 c T21 and the Ontario Occupier's Liability Act RSO 1990 c0.2 and in various Lakehead University Regulations, including the Lakehead University Traffic and Parking Regulations and the Student Code of Conduct.
