Lakehead University participated in Bell Let’s Talk Day to discuss mental health

Lakehead University’s Student Health and Counselling Centre partnered with Thunderwolves athletes and Wolfie for Bell Let’s Talk Day on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Several stations were outside Lakehead’s Main Cafeteria where students participated in games, started a conversation about mental health, posted speech bubbles on the wall and to social media.  

Lakehead athletes were on hand to greet students. There were give-aways and other activities that helped start the conversation about mental health.

“For far too long mental health wasn’t discussed or was only talked about behind closed doors,” said Irene Pugliese, Senior Counsellor at Lakehead’s SHCC. “Talking about it makes students aware that it’s OK to ask for help if they need it.”

Dedicated to moving mental health forward in Canada, Bell Let’s Talk promotes awareness and action with a strategy built on four key pillars: Fighting the stigma, improving access to care, supporting world-class research, and leading by example in workplace mental health.

A Bell Let’s Talk Thunderwolves basketball game night will be held on Friday, Feb. 2 at the CJ Sanders Fieldhouse, featuring stick-on tattoos, noisemakers, prizes, posters, and more.
