Strategic Theme: Local and Global Partnerships

Lakehead University will develop informed education, research, and service strategies and opportunities through connections with local and global partners, and relationships with Indigenous partners.

Lakehead Orillia Voice

The Orillia campus will cultivate a strong culture on campus through increasing local partnerships that support experiential learning, community-based research, and co-operative education opportunities. The Orillia campus will develop local industry partnerships to link our University’s knowledge-based capital with the needs of our local business and manufacturing partners in the communities that we serve.

The Office of the Principal will

  • Work towards the creation of an office focused on community-based research and experiential learning opportunities;
  • Utilize discussions with local employers, municipal government, and economic development organizations emerging from the President’s Advisory Council on Economic Development (PACED) to identify innovative strategies to address labour shortages in Simcoe County;
  • Establish a Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (CELL) Community Advisory Board to nurture local relationships and identify needs for expanded programming;
  • Work with Indigenous Initiatives and local Indigenous partners to highlight and recognize the centrality of Indigenous cultures and voices on our campus;
  • Continue to grow and expand the Lakehead-Georgian Partnership to meet local employment needs; and,
  • Support the ongoing development of an alumni community where our members have opportunities to engage, celebrate, and share with each other their experiences with and support of Lakehead University.
