The new Artist Certificate Program in Piano Performance and Pedagogy is a non-degree program designed for select post-baccalaureate musicians and music teachers who wish to pursue advanced career opportunities in music performance and music education. 

Students in the certificate program will have the opportunity to deepen their artistry and broaden their musical perspective beyond the typical academic requirements of an undergraduate music degree program.

This program is reserved for advanced performers who have completed an undergraduate degree, post-secondary conservatory diploma, or a foreign equivalent in music, and are seeking an intensive, one-year immersion in piano performance and pedagogy. 

Program Requirements

The Artist Certificate program involves selective, intensive, and advanced professional piano studies designed to enhance the performance skills of talented musicians. 

The program consists of a balance of applied music, master classes, collaborative performance, a public recital, and selected academic courses.

Program entrance requires a piano audition (in person or recording) which should demonstrate exposure to a wide variety of styles and represent the student as an artist with advanced musical sensibilities, technical accomplishment, and stylistic awareness.

To obtain the Artist Certificate, admitted students must successfully complete (70% minimum average) the following coursework (3.0 FCE total):

MUSI 4900- Artistic Training (Performance Lessons) 1.0 FCE

MUSI 4952 - Professional Development (Recital) 0.5 FCE

MUSI 4953 - Collaborative Performance (Supervised Performance Project) 0.5 FCE

MUSI 3951 - Piano Pedagogy and Teaching Techniques 0.5 FCE

Music Elective (Any third or fourth-year music elective) 0.5 FCE
