Our Programs
Lakehead University School of Nursing accepted its first students in 1965 and since that time has continued to grow and evolve. The School of Nursing currently offers a four year BScN program, a three year compressed BScN program, a four year BScN program in collaboration with the Seven Generations Education Institute, a Masters of Nursing program with two streams - Advanced Practice Specialization, or Nurse Practitioner Specialization, and an Indigenous Nursing Entry Program (INEP).
What is Nursing?
Nursing is a profession that blends science with compassion and technology with humanity. Nurse researchers explore both the science and the art of caring, while nurse clinicians use technology to enhance the care they provide. Whether in hospitals, schools, long-term care, industry, the community, or the home, nurses make a meaningful impact. At Lakehead University, you too will make a difference!
What are the Essential Skills to Become a Registered Nurse?
The licensing body for Registered Nurses in Ontario is the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). The CNO sets the entry-to-practice competencies and essential skills required for graduates to become licensed and work as Registered Nurses.
Lakehead University's Baccalaureate Nursing Programs (Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Compressed) are approved by the CNO (www.cno.org). Graduates from these programs are eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
