Take Back the Night
The event will begin at 6:00pm with drumming and speeches, and continue with an empowerment march. Following the march, there will be a time for music and creativity; Jayal of the Sharing Our Stories project will be facilitating Zine Making, and there will be colouring sheets available throughout the evening. We also will have Jen Metcalf of Outside The Lines playing for us again. Further, in recognizing the need to ground ourselves after events such as this, Dr. Jen Chisholm from the Women’s Studies department will be offering a restorative yoga session towards the end of the night (no previous yoga experience needed).
Pre-Event Happenings:
There are a few events happening in anticipation of Take Back The Night that you’re welcome to attend!
Jay (Honouring our Stories) and the Northwestern Ontario Women's Centre will be having an even for sign and banner making in anticipation of Take Back The Night. This will be held on October 27th from 4-8pm at the Northern Ontario Women’s Centre (184 Camelot). See the event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1166845233380832/
The GIC will be hosting an on-campus pre-event creative space in the Agora on November 1st starting at 9am and going right through until 4pm. There will be sign-making, as well as tshirts for folks who want to participate in the Clothesline Project (people can decorate/write on a t-shirt as a way of sharing their own story, in whatever words, pictures might best represent them. It's a way of remembering the fact that all of those shirts represent stories, some which we may never get to hear.).
