Fiddick stated that this was something that had been in place when IS was not part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.  Further discussion followed.

ii)  Value Statement
J. Roth mentioned that the draft value statement for our Faculty was ready.  This statement will be sent out to all Chairs/Director for review.  D. Ivison mentioned that feedback should be requested.  S. Jobbitt stated that it would be best to speak with the committee first before distributing the document.

Dean’s Report
Friday, June 26th, 2020.

1.  Thank you to all the Acting Chairs/Director for their work:  M. Johnston for Outdoor Recreation; S. Jobbitt for History; E. Chugunov for Music; K. Burnett for Indigenous Learning.
Welcome to the new Acting Chairs/Director:  C. Sanders for Sociology; T. Potter for Outdoor Recreation; R. Maundrell for History.

2.  Shared office spaces such as those used by Contract Lecturers are on the Provost’s list of items to address/review.

3.  Orders for text books for the coming year should be sent to the Bookstore as soon as possible.  They have updated the process recently and have made it easier for students to get their books.

4.  Technology needs are being addressed on an ongoing basis.  Please check in with TSC or the Teaching Commons to discuss your needs.  USB document readers have been ordered and will be distributed to those who require them.  Make sure you are ordering the correct technology and are getting them out to those who need them.  All orders need to be approved by the Provost.  Please send special needs directly to me and I will contact TSC so orders can be placed as a “bundle.”  Items purchased will be paid for the Department/School and the Dean.

5.  PTR applications can be postponed for one year.  We might not hear anything until September so please check in with LUFA.  Also, teaching evaluations for courses held this past winter and fall/winter need not be submitted with the annual report for this year.

D. Ivison took over at Chair, Faculty Council for the remainder of the meeting.
Any further questions/comments:

J. Jarman asked about the status of winter courses.  B. Birmingham mentioned that there may be face to face classes in the winter but it was too early for any decision to be made.  Students have expressed concerns about this as well as housing and getting back to campus.  B. Birmingham stated that Lakehead was waiting for the province to make a decision regarding winter classes.

K. Holmes mentioned that daycare and child care was hard for students to arrange.  This is also a serious issue for faculty as well as daycares are taking less children now.  It was suggested that this item also be forwarded to the Provost.  B. Parker mentioned that Nanibijou would opening in July and that those needing daycare should submit their applications for a space(s).

B. Birmingham said that the return to work plan might be ready mid-July and that we were currently waiting for the province to take the lead.

9.
Next Faculty Council Meeting:  M. Stevenson stated that perhaps we could have our next meeting toward the end of August or in July if necessary.
