Dean’s Report.
I hope everyone is doing well.
1. Try to be good to each other.
2. Last time we met, we developed 3 questions as follows:
• Everyone appreciates the clear guidelines and protocols for return to research. People working on campus with students were wondering if it is possible to get similar protocols developed, perhaps a one pager, with contacts and protocols. I think people feel very uncertain, and would like more direction in this area. Many concerns were brought forward such as how to handle/arrange for cleaning; protocol for wearing masks on campus; etc. I have reached out to Rhonda in hopes to develop a one-page reference document that would provide answers to most questions/concerns. Communication is key during this time and this will help to make everyone feel more confident with regard to any decisions they might have to make. For now, please bring your request to me, and I will try to share the pieces I have.
• Student Central. I appreciate that Sam was here, but I did move forward a request for extra help and triage of students at beginning of semester.
• Is there a way for Campus Tech to have some tech stocked for student needs and try to source less-expensive laptops/cameras, headphone/mics for them? Some students are having trouble acquiring the tech they need to participate in class. (crickets). This has gone directly to Andrew.
3. Leaders meetings: Tuesday/Wednesday option two weeks after Faculty Council. As we had no times when we were all available, we will break into two groups with the same agenda. Choose one meeting if you wish.
4. Internships: While these are still possible, it is important to develop guidelines for safety, and make matches as you normally would. We also have access to online internships and practicia assignments through Riipen, as well as classroom options for pairing with businesses or non-profit organizations. I can schedule a meeting with whomever is interested with our provider of this service.
5. Budget: We will need to talk about budget at the next leaders meeting and the next Faculty Council. I am hoping we will get some of our international funds carried forward from last year.
6. Recruitment: Virtual recruitment fair has representation from 5 of our units. I really appreciate all those who stepped forward. There are two more options for this kind of event, one in December and one in March, 2021.
• I need from each unit: FAQ - What questions might first year students be most likely to ask about your program. Please provide 5 points that you feel would be beneficial.
• What is the thing you would start with when telling students about your program, ie; a two sentence key take away.
• Electronic brochures, flyers, business cards, etc. for additional contacts would be helpful.
7. Recommendations for spring/summer courses are due October 19, 2020.
7.
Other Business:
None.
8.
Next Faculty Council Meeting: Thursday, November 12th, 2020, at 10:00 am via Zoom.
