Laser Safety Program
Work with Class 3 and Class 4 lasers at Lakehead University must meet the requirements set by the Ontario Ministry of Labour and ANSI standards 136. Laser Safety Procedure can be found here.
Supervisors must keep an inventory of Class 3 and Class 4 lasers used or stored at Lakehead University. The lab must also have written and approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laser use and alignment. Templates can be found below. Supervisors must also provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suitable for working with their laser, and provide laboratory specific laser safety training to all users. The Laser Safety Officer will review SOPs, PPE and training to ensure that the standard set in ANSI 136.
Basic Laser safety is now available online through the Accessibility and Health and Safety Training website. Documented lab specific training is also required and must be completed with the Supervisor.
- This training must be documented on the New Laboratory Trainee Orientation Checklist For Supervisor.
