You can’t get more local than growing something yourself, and you will appreciate how much fresh herbs will brighten up winter cooking throughout early 2022!  Participants will receive four local, organic seed varietals, including basil, parsley, thyme, and oregano, as well as planting notes for growing herbs indoors in the winter months.

Using their own planters, or upcycled recycled containers, participants will sign into an interactive webinar on Tuesday, January 25 at 7 pm that will enable them to not only plant their seeds effectively to enable growth, but also plant the seeds to start thinking about future gardening initiatives that can be started inside in the new year.

The transition to a post-pandemic workplace is here, and whether one’s work is in-person, virtual, or hybrid, navigating the new world of work can be challenging. As co-lead investigator of The Canadian Happiness At Work Study, Dr. Gillian knows the current workplace landscape and how it affects both mental and physical health, productivity, performance, and the bottom line.

Increasing happiness and fulfillment may be one of the most productive things people can do to thrive both personally and professionally, and research shows that these capabilities can be learned. All of the latest research underscores what a significant factor happiness is to motivation, performance, success, and thriving. In fact, implementing happiness-building practices at work results in 125% less burnout, 66% fewer sick leaves, 44% higher retention, and 37% greater sales. In this session, Dr. Gillian will outline a roadmap to happier work using tools and strategies to increase energy, decrease burnout, and sustain positive change.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to join the meeting.

It may seem like a good work strategy to do one more thing or push through. But, in fact, our focus and productivity will go down when our energy is depleted. This means we have to work harder and longer to get the same results that we would have had if we took the time to recharge. In this one-hour session, we’re going to focus on activities that will help us relax, calm our minds and energize us. Each activity is created specifically for us to do during break times when we need to recharge. Come to enjoy the experience and learn to recharge yourself. More details to follow upon registration. This is a free workshop offered to all employees during Thrive Week.

Please contact Linda Henderson, Wellness Coordinator at wellnesscoordinator@lakeheadu.ca to register.

There is a common belief that happiness is something one must find or achieve. Once you find your soulmate or the perfect job, get a bigger house, or are able to retire, you’ll find happiness. But what if happiness isn’t dependent on these external factors and is instead something you can create for yourself? This talk explores happiness as something that does not just happen, but something that must be practiced. Drawing on her research in physical and mental health, wellness, and success, Gillian will explore the science and practice of happiness, and unpack evidence-based strategies you can use to practice happiness in your own daily life.  There is also a question and answer section at the end of this presentation.
