BIOL 2011 FA - Human Musculoskeletal Anatomy

Anatomical systems/topics covered are the integumentary, muscular, and skeletal systems as well as arthrology. Laboratory work includes the study of the cat as a representative animal.

BIOL 2171 FA - Genetics

Understand Mendel's genetic laws, experimental design, and how they apply to the heredity patterns which Mendel observed in pea plants. Understand the link between genotype and phenotype. Understand the difference between a character and a trait. Understand the difference between dominant and recessive alleles and the difference between homozygous and heterozygous. Understand extensions to Mendel's laws. Learn chromosome and inheritance and sex chromosomes. Learn gene linkage, recombination, and gene mapping. Learn DNA replication, gene mutation, and gene functional analysis. Learn genome annotation and genomic analysis.

BIOL 3012 FA - Indigenous Ethnobotany

An examination of the relationship of Indigenous Peoples to the plant kingdom. Covers how plants are viewed by Indigenous Peoples and their usage of plants for nourishment, ceremonial, medicinal, and utilitarian purposes. Emphasis will be on Indigenous practices with plants in North America with a particular focus on Northwestern Ontario.

BIOL 2012 WA - Human Internal Anatomy

Anatomical systems covered are nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, reproductive, urinary and endocrine. Laboratory work includes the study of the cat as a representative animal.

BIOLOGY 2230 WA - Cell Biology

Study of the molecular, metabolic and structural organization of eukaryotic cells in relation to function: membrane structure, transmembrane transport and membrane-bound compartments in cells, bioenergetics in mitochondria and chloroplasts, functions and trafficking of proteins, vesicular traffic and secretion, cytoskeleton and cell movement, extracellular matrix and cell adhesions, introduction to cell signaling. Experimental evidence for the concepts studied and principles of techniques used in cell biology research.

BIOL 2910 WA - Laboratory Biology

Introduction to basic laboratory techniques: pipetting, preparation of media, aseptic technique, cell disruption, protein purification and analysis, electrophoresis, chromatography. Development of skills in such areas as: laboratory note-keeping, reporting, graphical presentation of data, information searching.

Qualifications Preferred: Ph.D. preferred and experience in teaching

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of course delivery is highly desired. Please send a cv, brief description of the syllabus and assessment/marking scheme with the application.

The ideal candidate will possess an appropriate combination of both academic and professional experience in a field related to the course. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred, and experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. The Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies values and respects Indigenous traditional learning and knowledge and embraces various forms of teaching and learning where appropriate. Consequently, for Indigenous content focussed courses we will prioritize knowledge of Indigenous languages, community-based learning, and traditional knowledge above academic credentials, in the selection of candidates. For graduate courses, preference may be given to candidates who hold a PhD, or are working towards a PhD, combined with relevant professional experience.
