Transfer Credits (Currently Enrolled Graduate Students)
Transfer credits may be awarded for graduate level courses completed during a student's graduate studies at Lakehead University based on one of the following policies:
The Ontario Visiting Graduate Student Plan (OVGS)
Acceptance of graduate level transfer credits among Ontario universities shall be based on the Ontario Visiting Graduate Student Plan (OVGS). The Visiting Graduate Student Plan allows a graduate student of an Ontario University (Home University) to take graduate courses at another Ontario University (Host University) while remaining registered at his/her Home University. The plan allows the student to bypass the usual application for admission procedures. The student pays fees to his/her Home University and is classed as a "visiting graduate student" at the Host University where he/she pays no tuition fees.
To be considered for transfer credit under the OVGS plan, students must complete an application form. The application form must be approved prior to a student enrolling in graduate level courses at another Ontario university.
ELIGIBILITY - Applicants must be registered as full-time students in a Lakehead University graduate program and have completed at least 1 term of study at Lakehead University.
A maximum of one full course equivalent may be taken through OVGS.
Letter of Permission
Acceptance of graduate level transfer credits from other universities shall be based on a Letter of Permission. The Letter of Permission will outline the courses to be completed at the external university and the Lakehead University courses for which the student will receive credit. The Graduate Coordinator of the program and a representative of the Faculty of Graduate Studies must approve the letter prior to a student enrolling in graduate level courses from other universities.
Canadian University Graduate Transfer Agreement (CUGTA)
The Canadian University Graduate Transfer Agreement (CUGTA) is designed to provide students in good standing enrolled in a graduate degree or diploma program at a CAGS (Canadian Association for Graduate Studies) member University the opportunity to take courses offered at another member institution for transfer credit to the program at their institution.
ELIGIBILITY - Applicants must be registered as full-time students in a Lakehead University graduate program and have completed at least 1 term of study at Lakehead University.
