SSHRC Connections Grant Workshop

Are you looking to organize or host any of the following events or outreach activities to help disseminate your research?

  • Workshops
  • Colloquiums
  • Conferences
  • Forums
  • Summer institutes

You might be eligible for a Connections Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). This workshop will provide an introduction to the SSHRC Connections Grant program and include a walkthrough of the application process through the SSHRC web portal.

Other activities eligible for a Connections Grant include:

  • Adaptations of text (incl. translation to English, French or Aboriginal languages)
  • Development of policy briefs
  • Development of articles for newspapers or magazines
  • Virtual networking
  • Media events
  • Public debates
  • Artistic exhibits, performances, or festivals
  • Development/use of interactive technologies, audio-visual products, or software
  • Development/use of educational aids, instruments or equipment

The workshop will be on July 2nd, 2014 from 10am to 12pm in ATAC 3004 and OA2005.

The Economic Development and Innovation Office (EDI) hosts Northern SPARK, a networking event inviting faculty, staff and students to share their innovative ideas, and show-off their entrepreneurial spirit.  This event provided a platform for everyone to share, with a few selected 5-minute presentations, followed by an open-mic forum for anyone to contribute their story, journey, new product, service, business idea, or research project.

 

CFI Innovation Fund Webinar

In an effort to provide information and answer any questions regarding the 2015 Innovation Fund (IF) competition, the Canada Foundation for Innovation will be holding webinar sessions in February 2014. These sessions will be approximately 1 hour in duration and will begin with a 30 minute presentation, followed by a question and answer period. The webinars will focus on the objectives of the 2015 IF competition, changes from the previous competition, along with an overview of the application and review processes.

Faculty members interested in applying to the IF competition are invited to attend the webinar in AT3004 on Monday, February 10 at 1:30.

NSERC Discovery Grant Information Session

Lakehead University NSERC-eligible faculty members are invited to an NSERC  Discovery Grant information session/workshop to be held on February 13, 2014 in AT5036 from 11:30-1:00.  The session will be presented by Dr. Doug Morris, a Lakehead faculty member with extensive NSERC Evaluation Group experience.  The session will include the following topics:

  • NSERC's assessment process (and how knowledge of the review process/criteria can help guide in the preparation of a winning application).
  • Importance of minimum standards for "Excellence of the Researcher" criteria.
  • Tips for writing a proposal.

There will be time for questions at the conclusion of the presentation.

Annual Research and Innovation Week Poster Competition

Postdoctoral fellows currently engaged in research at Lakehead University are invited to participate in the Annual Research and Innovation Week Poster Competition for Postdoctoral Fellows.   A Panel of Reviewers will judge and adjudicate all eligible posters for first, second and third places. For each of the categories, namely, NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR, there should be a minimum of three poster participants to qualify for the first, second and third placement within the category.

As part of Research & Innovation Week 2014, we would like to take this opportunity to invite faculty members to promote their research results to the university community by participating in Faculty Research Day scheduled to be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 in the Agora.

Participation may include a poster, or any other preferred form of display which illustrates your research and innovation.  Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and/or visiting scholars who are part of your research team are also welcome to participate.
