As staff and faculty, you are often the first to recognize that a student is in distress so it is important that you feel equipped to identify these behaviours and also understand how you can help. The Supporting Students in Distress Guide and accompanying workshop outline the various levels of distress and the resources you can provide for a student in each level of distress. We will also cover available supports in various areas, both on and off-campus including Counselling and Wellness, Academic Services, Disability Services, Legal and Conduct, and Community Supports.
Graduate students are welcome to attend.
Registration required, session delivered via zoom.
“To toke, or not to toke. That is the question.”
Did you know that scientists found 400-year-old pipes in Shakespeare’s garden outside his home in Stratford-upon-Avon. Out of the 24 pipes they found, eight of them contained traces of cannabis. As it turns out, people have been growing cannabis for more than 12,000 years, making it one of humanity’s oldest crops. It can be used in construction, clothing, and even plastic. And the best part is that all of these options are eco-friendly.
Whether you’re a seasoned smoker, or curious to try beers cousin (cannabis and beer hops are in the same family of flowering plants), join staff from Student Health & Wellness in Bartley Front February 22nd from 1:30pm and 3:30pm to learn more about cannabis, the differences between THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids, and even bake a cookie* - yes you can eat them, no they won't get you high.
*cookies will not contain any actual cannabis products.
It can often be a challenge to take a minute to ourselves, so why not make self-care a habit and Take10.

TIME CHANGE- 11:30-3:30 pm
Wind up Love Week and get ready for a relaxing reading week by making mindfulness jars with Student Health and Wellness.
Mindfulness meditations ask us to suspend judgment of the workings of the mind and unleash our natural curiosity about what is happening in the moment, allowing ourselves to be with each moment with warmth and kindness, to ourselves and to others.
And while this may sound frivolous to some, or even a little weird, but the research suggests that developing this human capacity to observe ourselves and our surroundings non-judgmentally and with compassion has deep and nourishing effects on our well-being that ripple out into our daily lives and communities.
Join SHW, GEC and Pride to watch a romantic comedy and play red flag bingo.
Snacks will be provided.
The Therapy Dogs will be in the Agora as part of Student Appreciation Day from 12-1pm
It's February, which means love is in the air. And you know what else is in the air? A whole world of bacterial and viral infections just waiting to make themselves at home in your vulnerable mucus membranes. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) aren’t gross, yucky, a sign of poor judgement or character, or even all that uncommon. In fact, if you have sex, you’re probably going to end up getting one. You’re literally more likely to get one than to never get one. You might even have one right now and not know it. And that’s not the end of the world.
Join staff from Student Health & Wellness outside the Main Cafeteria on February 9th between 1:30pm and 3:30pm to learn about local and online sexual health resources, find out how easy STI testing is, and even pick up some free safe sex supplies (like condoms and lube). You can also call 807-343-8361 to book an STI test at Student Health & Wellness and get a FREE PERSIAN* all month long!
*by appointment only, must be an active student.
