Previous Teaching/Work: 

David K. Ratz, CD has taught a wide variety of courses over the past two decades. These have included courses Making of the Modern World, Canada to 1885, Modern Canada, the First World War, the Second World War, Canadian Military History (before and after 1919), and Introduction to the Canadian North. Outside of Lakehead, Dr. Ratz holds the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces and is the former Commanding Officer of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment. He is currently a member of the Military Faculty at the Canadian Forces College.

Research Interests: 

Dr. Ratz is a specialist in Canadian and European history, particularly foreign policy, military, and Finland and the Nordic region. Recent books have explored Finnish and Canadian bilateral relations, Canadian military history in Northwestern Ontario, and German Prisoner of War Camps in Canada.
