Bioenergy and biorefining processes, bioethanol from lignocellulosic residues, biodiesel, renewable chemicals from renewable resources using biological routes, fermentation production of fine chemicals, waste utilization, food safety and security, nutraceautical products.
The overall focus of Dr. Rakshit’s present research is in the area of production of biofuels and platform chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass, resource recovery and processes leading to a circular economy. His research group studies the possibility of producing products from renewable cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin rich streams obtained by the pretreatment of woody biomass and agricultural residues. He has recently initiated work on techno-economics and sustainable development using Life Cycle Analysis. His group is also working on the biodegradation of plastics through biological routes with the aim of re-using the monomers produced and hence reducing the use of such resources and its release into the environment. Recovery of valuable resources from waste streams is an area of current interest.
