My professional and personal goal is to further the long-term bio-cultural conservation of threatened species and cultures within landscapes through the practice of technologically advanced and culturally aware geography. I have worked on projects in North America, South America, Asia, and has also travelled extensively in Europe and Africa. My research interests currently revolve around three major topics: The role of fieldwork in geography; the national geography of Canada; and, the historical geography of South-east Asian maritime cities. Each of these topics has a major writing project associated with it and I am actively searching for thesis students and graduate students to assist me. I also have research interests in mapping generally, military geography, philosophy and geography, and conservation geography. I would welcome inquiries from students about research in these topics as well.
