Summer Accommodations
We’re proud to offer three different types of comfortable accommodations from May to August. All room styles come with fresh linens and access to Residence facilities such as outdoor barbeques, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts or a preferred rate in our state-of-the-art Athletics Centre. Barrier-free and fully-equipped options are available upon request and availability.
Whether here for a short visit or an extended stay, we are pleased you’d consider staying on our picturesque and centrally located campus. Created in 1965 as the University of the North, Lakehead University is located on approximately 150 hectares of land. The campus is situated around man-made Lake Tamblyn and provides the opportunity for many recreational activities throughout the year. Running through the university campus is the McIntyre River which creates a beautiful backdrop for our residence complexes.

Townhouse |
Our townhouses offer a "home away from home" atmosphere, ideal for larger groups or families. Each townhouse is made up of a full-sized kitchen with toaster, coffee pot, tea kettle and cups, living room with television with basic cable, and dining room on the main floor. The second floor contains four single bedrooms and a four-piece bathroom. Sliding glass doors in the living room open out to a patio and semi-private back yard. Wi-Fi is available throughout the unit. A sheltered outdoor bicycle storage facility is also available. Card Access laundry facilities are located nearby. Barrier-free access is available upon request. |
Apartment |
Each Basic Apartment complex is low rise offering fully furnished, 4 bedroom apartments. Every unit includes a storage room, full kitchen and dining room, 4-piece bath, powder room, television with basic cable and a telephone with an ethernet cable internet connection in each bedroom and WiFi throughout. Every unit is also air-conditioned and supplied with a vacuum, mop, bucket, broom, and dustpan. Each floor of the building has a communal lounge with couches, a tv, a small kitchenette, and card-operated laundry facilities. Laundry cards can be purchased through Bartley Front Desk. Apartment accommodations are rented out per UNIT only. Payment and assigning roommates must be arranged by the contact person booking the unit. Barrier-free access is available upon request. Subject to availability, our accommodations offer basic and fully-equipped townhouses. Our fully-equipped units offer all of the features of a basic unit plus the following:

Dormitory |
The rooms in each of these Dormitory (individual single, bedrooms) houses are ideal for school, sports groups, graduations, conferences, or small to large groups. Additionally, a lovely park-like setting is situated around the residences which is a perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors or to socialize in a natural setting. Bartley Residence is nestled along the McIntyre River and is divided into a series of 'houses'. Each dormitory-style house in Bartley Residence has 3 floors with rooms that are divided into furnished basic single and single. All of the houses are equipped with a furnished lounge with a TV, sink and microwave, coffee pot, toaster, tea kettle, storage area, study room, male and female washrooms, sheltered outdoor bicycle storage facility, and a card access laundry facility (across from each house). Located in the Avila Centre, Halliday Hall Residence is a smoke-free, dormitory-style residence hall. The Residence is situated in a retreat-like setting right on campus and comprised of furnished single rooms with a shared TV lounge, small kitchenette, bicycle storage area, sports equipment storage, and laundry facility. There are shared, separated washroom and shower facilities located near each bedroom wing. All rooms feature:

Ideal for longer term stays or guests with special dietary restrictions, our Fully-Equipped units are move-in ready and provide all of the amenities you may otherwise miss when away from home. Year-Round Accommodations
Here at Lakehead Conference Services, we also have a limited selection of accommodations available year round. Whether a staff member visiting on contract or a professor teaching for a semester, our Conference Suites are an affordable short-term option for your stay.
Conference Suites |
Lakehead University Conference Services offers a few fully furnished, fully equipped suites for rent on a maximum 8-month basis. These units are reserved for staff and faculty and are subject to availability. Maximum occupancy per unit is 2 adults. Unfortunately, family housing is not available. Undergraduates are encouraged to visit the Residence website for a variety of accommodations options. Each private suite is made up of a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave and cooking supplies (dishes, cutlery, mixing bowls, pots, and pans, coffee maker, toaster, kettle, glasses, can opener, teapot, etc.). In addition, a furnished living room (with basic cable), dining area (with dining table and chairs), and card access laundry are provided. Suite bedrooms come equipped with a computer desk and desk chair, a double bed, dresser, closet area, night table, full bathroom (with linen & towels), a telephone and wifi internet access. Rainy River Suite is designed to be accessible and therefore has a single bed, however all other amenities are the same. |

Checking In and Payment
We accept Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, or Interact. We have moved to a Cashless operation, so please plan your travel accordingly.
Upon arrival, our Guest Services team will request the full payment for your stay upfront. Please note that we only provide refunds at the discretion of our management team and only for emergencies. A $200.00 Deposit per person over 18 years of age will be held for the duration of your stay and released within 48 hours of check out. In the event any additional costs are incurred on your room, this will be taken off the deposit at that time.
If you are unsure of your length of stay, we have the option to pay daily before 11:00am. If this is your intent, please communicate with the Front Desk staff your plans, as they will make every effort to ensure you can remain in the same bedroom.
Credit Cards must be provided in person to process the transaction.

If you have an after-hours arrival, please connect with our Guest Services Team (807) 343-8485 or guest.services@lakeheadu.ca to receive the after-hours arrival process and to inform our on-call team of your arrival time. Note: Hours of Operation vary during the academic year (September to April) Please call or email to confirm our opening hours.
Getting Here
Lakehead University is a ten minute drive from the airport up highway 61 and right down Oliver Road. Our accommodations are located at the back of the campus, accessible from either major entrances on Lakehead University Drive North (off of Oliver Road) or Lakehead University Drive South (off of Balmoral Street).
Local transit is also an option for getting around with both the 2 and 9 using the university as a major stop.
Alternative methods of transportation available include uRide (mobile phone app), Roaches Taxi (807) 345-7721, and Diamond Taxi (807) 622-6001.
Once on Campus:
The Avila Centre is located at the back of campus: you can follow 'University Drive' through our main campus & main parking lots (G13/14) and turn left once you reach the three-way stop (Lake Tamblyn and our 'University Centre' building will be in front of you). Following the campus road past our Prettie and Bartley Residences, you will turn left down the hill past our apartment complexes (North and South). Lot G17 is located at the back of the Avila Building.
Our Entrance is located next to the Soccer Field on the South-Side of the building (right-hand side when looking at it from Lot G17)
Bike Shelter We support green travel and want to ensure your bike is safely stored during your stay. Please let our Front Desk know upon arrival to sign out a key to our covered bike shelter or lock up your bike at our outdoor bike rack located behind the Avila Centre.
Parking Parking passes are required Monday to Friday 7:00am to 9:00pm. Passes can be purchased through the front desk for $5.00 per pass per day. Monthly or Long-Stay Passes must be purchased from our Security Services, located in the main University Centre building. Permits are not required for parking on University property between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and at any time on Saturdays, Sundays, or official University holidays.
Rules & Regulations
Smoking on Campus Lakehead University campus offers designated smoking areas in designated parking lots only. Smoking recreational cannabis is not permitted on campus. There is no smoking allowed in any of the campus/residence buildings and rooms.
Garbage and Recycling are the responsibility of the occupants of each unit to take out. There is a large green dumpster & recycling bin located outside of the Avila Centre OR in any public area garbage (hallway / lounge / shared washroom). Additional garbage and recycling bags are available free of charge through the front desk.
Pets & Service Animals No pets are permitted in residence rooms & public areas. Service Animals are permitted with advance notice & doctors note indicating they are a service animal.
Damages Lakehead University Residence & Conference Services keeps an updated record of the conditions of Residence rooms, common areas and meeting space. Any damages, except for normal wear and tear, will become the responsibility of the guest. The organization/individual agrees to pay for the cost of repair or replacement of any damage done to University property. An itemized list of any charges and the damaged items will be forwarded to you.
Lost Keys In the event that your keys have been lost, you will be charged for the cost of a lock change. The charges and key replacement will be a minimum of $150.00.
Locked Out of Room If you are locked out of your room during Front Desk Hours of Operation, please contact the Bartley Front Desk: (807) 343-8485. After hours, please call Security at 343-8569 for one of our on-call staff to be called to your location.
VIOLATIONS
Residence & Conference Services Administration reserves the right to modify this list at our discretion. The following is NOT permitted:
Removing or sliding open window screens / removing windows
Unauthorized removal of furniture
Propping of doors
Posting of signs / posters without Residence approval stamp
Practicing / playing sports inside Residence Buildings
Bringing a pet into Residence
Failure to exit building during a fire alarm or Tampering with fire equipment
Vandalism, Violence / Physical aggression / Harassment
Smoking (including e-cigarettes, medical marijuana and hookahs) in Residence buildings & public areas is prohibited. There are designated smoking areas located outside.
Smoking recreational cannabis is not prohibited anywhere on University property.
Burning candles, sparklers, incense, firecrackers
Firearms and any other weapon or item that is created / intended to cause harm, or could be seen as intimidating, are strictly prohibited.
There is no alcohol allowed in public areas including common hallways or exterior areas on Lakehead University property. Please note that the drinking age in Ontario is 19. Refer to link for allowable quantities in your unit at one time.
Unacceptable & excessive noise in public areas is prohibited: An individual’s right to reasonable quiet supersedes another’s right to make noise. Refer to link below for campus quiet hours.
Bikes or sports equipment are to be stored in designated storage areas.
Soliciting/Subletting: one may not operate a business or undergo commercial activities in or from Residence nor sublet their room to another individual
All overnight guests not registered as the occupant must be reported to the Front Desk for Security & Emergency Evacuation procedure or emailed to conference.services@lakeheadu.ca
Your accommodations must be kept at an acceptable standard of cleanliness.
