Overview
Responsibilites
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled work relative to the maintenance and repair of University buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more trades such as carpentry, painting, and general construction; emphasis will be on carpentry.
- Report to the Manager Residence Facilities and Operations and assist in the solution of problems related to the operation and usage of the Residence buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
- Maintain appropriate work records
- Provide instructions and assign daily work
- Assists contractors by providing information about Residence buildings
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education and completion of tradesman qualifications or technical school graduation in a trade such as carpentry, painting, general construction, or a combination of equivalent experience and education; carpentry certificate preferred
- Considerable knowledge in methods and practices of a particular trade as demonstrated by a trade certificate
- General knowledge of recognized practices, safe work habits and techniques employed in construction and maintenance
- Ability to perform heavy manual work
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public
- Must have a good work record
- Must have a good record of attendance and punctuality
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards
