Overview


Responsibilites


  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled work relative to the maintenance and repair of University buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more trades such as carpentry, painting, and general construction; emphasis will be on carpentry.
  • Report to the Manager Residence Facilities and Operations and assist in the solution of problems related to the operation and usage of the Residence buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
  • Maintain appropriate work records
  • Provide instructions and assign daily work
  • Assists contractors by providing information about Residence buildings
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications


  • Grade 12 education and completion of tradesman qualifications or technical school graduation in a trade such as carpentry, painting, general construction, or a combination of equivalent experience and education; carpentry certificate preferred
  • Considerable knowledge in methods and practices of a particular trade as demonstrated by a trade certificate
  • General knowledge of recognized practices, safe work habits and techniques employed in construction and maintenance
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public
  • Must have a good work record
  • Must have a good record of attendance and punctuality
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards
