The Administrative Assistant is primarily responsible for providing administrative support to the Chemical, Civil and Mechanical department chairs, Contract Lecturers and students. This position is the first point of contact for the Department and acts as a liaison between students, staff, and other University departments. The Library Technician - Access Services and Copyright will provide user-centred support at the library’s online and in-person service points. This work will include promptly and thoroughly answering email and phone inquiries, staffing the integrated services desk, and participating in the OCUL Ask a Librarian chat. In addition to reference and research support, the Library Technician will maintain patron records and facilitate the circulation of library materials by brief cataloguing, charging, discharging and renewing materials. Services work will also include processing and distributing Lakehead identification cards, processing PaperCut and Makerspace payments and supporting community access to library resources.
The incumbent will manage copyright clearance status and compliance for reading list and reserve materials at Lakehead University Libraries. The Library Technician will work closely with the Manager, Access Services to ensure compliance with copyright law and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of copyright as it relates to reading list processing.
Support for other Library Technicians at our various locations will also be required as needed.

Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Environmental Stewardship, the incumbent will be responsible for the operations of ICP-OES, MeHg, TOC/TN, continuous flow analysis, and portable XRF in the Lakehead University Environmental Laboratory (LUEL) and Lakehead University Instrumentation Laboratory (LUIL). This position will carry out Organic, Environmental, Geochemical testing and analysis.
Duties include:
•Method development, performing laboratory techniques according to published procedures and releasing results to faculty, students and external clients and partners, disposal of samples and filing of lab results / data.
• Preparation of samples for analysis following standard operating procedures and established methods
• Ensure proper maintenance and usage of analytical equipment
• Implementing a quality system in daily operations
• Provide training within the laboratory to graduate and undergraduate students, and technical support / advice within or outside the laboratory.
•Perform work in laboratory facility environments and willing to work with hazardous materials, following all safety requirements and processes.
•Assist in training new students (staff, graduate, undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows) ensuring compliance with quality assurance processes and safety (chemical, biohazard) associated with Laboratory instruments.
•Review scientific literature and to conduct literature reviews on analytical methods. Design and apply new methods for a range of scientific research and contribute to the development of laboratory standard operating procedures.
•Organize, check and analyze complex data files and backups, and complete statistical analysis of the data when required.

The RAC position is a full-time, live-in staff member. On-site housing and a meal plan are provided and are in addition to remuneration. A Canadian-based environmental humanities research team invites applications for a two-year full-time postdoctoral researcher to contribute to a collaborative research project entitled “Racialized Ecologies in and Beyond Settler-Colonial Canada: Documentary, Speculative, and Poetic Texts and Contexts.”
Qualifications:
Candidates must have:
1. Specialized knowledge in an area of Indigenous, Black, Asian, Latinx, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, global, postcolonial, or diasporic literary, film, or cultural studies relevant to Canada. Period open.
2. Specialized knowledge in documentary, speculative, narrative, and/or poetic modes of cultural production (at least one)
3. Demonstrated expertise with Indigenous, race, ethnic, and/or settler-colonialism studies;
4. A PhD in English, Cultural Studies, Film, Indigenous Studies, or cognate field received no earlier than July 1, 2017
5. An interest in environmental justice.
These additional qualifications are preferred:

Responsibilities:
• Develop and undertake research for a case study that brings one of your own areas of expertise into understanding the racialized ecologies that subtend the Canadian nation-building project, including, where relevant, material or contexts sited outside Canada.
• Contribute to theorizing how the team’s studied creative texts and research questions may present new approaches to the documentary, poetic, and speculative in literature and film and to the methods and contexts studied in the environmental humanities.

- Develop and maintain relationships with other universities' Sustainability Offices and organizations to assist with implementation of the Plan, knowledge sharing, and partnerships.
- Develop long and short-term strategies for the implementation of the Plan, recommend changes needed to integrate sustainability principles into the academic and operational functions of the university, provide an annual progress report, and advance general sustainability initiatives.
- Continue momentum from the Year of Climate Action, referring to its final report.
- Coordinate campus-wide sustainability committees; in particular, provide support for the Lakehead University Sustainability Stewardship Council (LUSSC), its Working Groups, and the Sustainability Executive Advisory Committee.
- Provide advice and recommendations from best practice research to other Departments seeking to be more sustainable.
- Visit Lakehead Orillia at least once a year to maintain partnerships, oversee Office of Sustainability initiatives there, and plan for a sustainability staff position on that campus.
- Publicize, promote, and communicate Lakehead University's sustainability efforts within and outside the campus community.

Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree in a sustainability-related field.

The Lakehead University Agricultural Research Station (LUARS) is seeking a contract Agricultural Technician to join their team. The duties include but are not limited to:
Establish, maintain, and harvest agricultural research plots including the following main tasks:
- Land preparation using disks, rototillers and cultivators with tractors;
- Calculating and weighing fertilizers at different rates of nutrients application and fertilizers application with tractor and manually;
- Seeding with a seed drill;
- Trimming plots with hand operated and tractor operated rototiller;
- Harvesting crops with sickles, Suzie Binder and Forage Harvester;
- Threshing grain and seed crops with a thresher;
- Grain cleaning and recording grain observations such as 1000 K weight, Hectoliter weight;
- Collecting, drying and shipping samples.
The ideal candidate will have a Diploma in agricultural sciences, or a High School graduate with a minimum of two to three years of related experience. Skills required include completion of the Grower Pesticide Safety Course, First Aid and CPR certificates, valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and WHMIS. Computer knowledge including Windows would be an asset. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Remuneration will be $25/hour plus benefits. The contract is renewable during next year(s) for 8 months (April to November) every year depending upon employee performance and funds availability.

The incumbent will provide administrative assistant support to the Associate Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies (AVPRGS) and the Director, Bio-Refining Research Institute. This position acts in part, as a liaison on behalf of the University, and must therefore always conduct themselves in a professional manner.
Duties:
• Responsible for providing administrative support to the BRI Director and the Associate Vice-
President, Research and Graduate Studies. Duties include calendar-keeping, scheduling meetings,
maintaining the review schedule, taking minutes, budget monitoring, providing background material
and briefing notes as needed, and maintaining monthly attendance.
• Responsible for coordinating and organizing activities for the Research Centres and Institutes
• requesting, processing preparing Executive Summaries of the annual reports for the Senate
Research Committee (SRC)
• Providing background information on external awards as needed
• Responsible for working with the Office of External Relations to help coordinate and oversee
Initiatives related to Research Centres and Institutes such as re-branding
• Monitoring and updating awards calendar and deadlines for external awards nominations, as well as
monitoring the status of award nomination packages
• Preparing application files for award nomination packages
• Contacting internal and external researchers and administrators writing support letters
• Responsible for organizing and maintaining databases and files for the AVPRGS, such as national
and international research prizes and awards, contact persons and procedures (internal and external).
• Responsible for corresponding with researchers, maintaining and submitting internal paperwork like
time sheets, budgets, travel forms, etc.
• Ordering chemicals and equipment for BRI, as well as arranging for the repair and/or service of
the instruments of the BRI facilities. Responsible for communicating with chemical/equipment suppliers.
• Responsible for assisting the BRI director with operating/developing new research/academic programs
and projects and funding applications.
• Review academic/nonacademic documents generated at BRI
• Maintaining and updating the BRI website, and responding to web, email, and phone inquiries.
• Addressing and responding to administrative requests and inquiries of BRI including inquiries of
HQP associated with BRI.
• Responsible for communicating with researchers external to BRI and Lakehead, under the
Director's guidance, as well as international industrial and academic partners.
• Responsible for coordinating conferences, events, and/or workshops including preparing
materials, communicating with participants and other units on campus.
• Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Social Sciences & Humanities (preferred) or in a related field;
• 3 years’ of professional experience in an administrative position in a University environment. Experience in
a research environment is an asset;
• Demonstrated experience preparing briefing notes and background research;
• Demonstrated proficiency with PCs, general website maintenance, and various office programs
including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher), Zoom, and Adobe;
• Experience with Datatel/Colleague considered an asset;
• Ability to learn new systems as required
• Experience preparing briefing notes and background research;
• Excellent communicator in written, presentation, and verbal form.
• Resourceful, takes initiative, extremely versatile and dedicated to efficient productivity
• Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with
excellent attention to detail
• Strong capacity for independent judgement;
• Demonstrated ability to work and handle all office duties and communications in a
confidential and diplomatic manner;
• Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
• Superior writing skills, an understanding of time management, and the ability to communicate in a succinct
and clear manner.

Project title:
Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic response on chronic disease management and quality of life in Indigenous and Black communities in Ontario
This research responds to the need to mitigate the wider impacts of COVID-19, by evaluating how
the health system (policy and practice) is responding to the needs and realities of Indigenous and Black peoples, during the pandemic and beyond, with the aim to contribute to social justice and health equity. Namely, we intend to:
- Assess and better understand the impacts of the policy response to the pandemic for people living with chronic conditions among members of Indigenous and Black communities;
- Learn about approaches offered for chronic disease management during the pandemic, their successes and/or challenges;
- Provide recommendations for policy responses and care approaches that are informed by anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches, overall and in future emergencies
This is a 2-year project using an intersectional mixed methods approach, allowing for consideration of both numbers, narratives, collaborative interpretations and relationships that are centered on Indigenous and Black knowledge and community participation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administrative and project coordination tasks
- Literature review and contribution to reports/ manuscripts writing
- Research tools development
- Participants’ recruitment and data collection, as well as logistical support for interviews/focus groups
- Other tasks, as needed (e.g. data analysis, presentations)
Hours of work will be up to 22.5 hours/week with a flexible schedule, and mostly remote. The hours may be increased if necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree, from a relevant discipline (Health and Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, or other relevant areas combined with adequate experience)
- Master’s students may also be considered
- Interested in community-based research and partnerships development
- Ability to connect and work with community members and other stakeholders
- Knowledge or experience in qualitative or quantitative research will be an asset
- Experience in project coordination and team work will be an asset

The Clinical & Lab Technologist (CLT) will be responsible for the application of specialized technical and practical skills to support undergraduate BScN students, clinical instructors, and faculty/staff by facilitating quality learning environments and experiences that bridge the gap between nursing theory, hands-on lab experiences, and clinical nursing practice.
This position is tasked with activities such as support of nursing students, faculty, staff, clinical and lab instructors, and management of multiple nursing lab spaces. This role oversees all student and clinical instructor lab/clinical onboarding and orientations and ensures consistency across lab/clinical course communication to students and clinical/lab instructors. The CLT is responsible to assist faculty to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate clinical and lab course experiences that adhere to Senate approved requirements. May assist with Return to Clinical (RTC) simulations, and activities tailored to recruitment of prospective students. Also, may be responsible, in collaboration with faculty, for on-site clinical visits and follow up as required for student remediation of clinical knowledge and/or skills, including alternative planning for missed clinical/lab time and practice labs. Further, the CLT may be asked to sit on both internal and external committees with clinical partners as needed. Other duties may be assigned as required, per the Director, School of Nursing.
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (or equivalent) and relevant practice as a Registered Nurse. The CLT must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario with an unrestriced license.The CLT position requires knowledge of educational strategies/theories, and understanding of how to create/facilitate learner-centered environments in nursing, such as that acquired through graduate education studies. The CLT position requires knowledge of clinical nursing and professional nursing communication. The CLT position requires use of standard computer software including, but not limited to, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office (creation of documents and presentations), Excel, and Adobe Acrobat DC (fillable PDFs). The CLT position requires knowledge of various Lakehead University procedures and policies (e.g., School of Nursing policies, Student Code of Conduct, etc.). Knowledge of research and scholarship principles are also required in the position of CLT due to requirements for high levels of faculty collaboration.
